Barry Rust

Barry Rust has worked at Community Roots, a Roots ConnectED learning site, since 2007. During his time there, he has taught 2nd and 4th grade and worked as a math intervention teacher and math coach. Barry also serves as a member of the Inclusive Practices Group at Community Roots, a group dedicated to understanding learner variability and exploring inclusive practices, particularly through Universal Design for Learning (UDL). Barry has also led workshops on inclusive math teaching for teachers and school leaders with the Math Collective, a group of math educators in New York City. His experiences volunteering and working in diverse schools has led him to understand more deeply the barriers faced by children, teachers, and administration in many school communities. He is excited to continue thinking about the ways we can break these patterns of oppression through his work with Roots ConnectED. Barry holds degrees in General Education/Literacy and Math Leadership from Bank Street College of Education.
